GENETIC ANALYSIS OF UPLAND RICE F4 POPULATIONS (SILESO × CIHERANG) FOR PHENOLOGICAL AND YIELD RELATED TRAITS

Climate change increases the drought-affected areas, which challenge breeders to develop adaptive and drought-tolerant rice cultivars. The study aimed determine heritability, gene action controlling of various traits in upland F4 populations derived from cross, Sileso (high yielding drought tolerant) × Ciherang (early maturing), obtain high-yielding early-maturing lines. populations, along with parental check cultivars, were planted augmented design July November 2021 at Faculty Agriculture, Samudra University, Langsa, Indonesia. Analysis variance showed significant differences among cultivars for traits, such as, panicle length, productive tillers, filled grains per panicle, grain yield plant. population families revealed maturity, plant, confirmed greater genetic diversity, proved potential produce best vs. family interactions also exhibited all characters. Results high heritability i.e., inheritance characters was controlled by additive action. Inheritance majority polygenic except plant height tillers. selected promising reduced height, increased compared its cultivar ‘Sileso’.
